93 A tour de force from the 2004 vintage, combining the floral and spice hallmarks of the year's moderate temperatures with deftly polished structure and weight. Raspberry and blackberry flavors are bold and rich, while the tannins are strong yet supple. Drink–through 2020.

92 Deep red. Powerful, utterly room-filling bouquet encompasses the full range of red and dark berries, with pungent cola, licorice, exotic spice and smoked meat qualities; like a lesson in syrah aromas. Inky, deep and round, with extremely sweet dark berry and kirsch flavors accented by sexy oak spice and vanilla, and supported by gentle acidity and fine-grained tannins. The vines here average over 60 years of age.

90 Rather roasted for a 2004, with dark olive, hoisin sauce, coffee and tar notes backed by a dark, fleshy finish. Solid power and depth, with nice minerality and acidity. Drink now through 2016. 415 cases made.

90 The top cuvee, the 2004 Cornas La Sabarotte is gamey and earthy, with hints of new saddle leather, roasted meats, blackberry, crushed rocks and flowers. It is elegant, rich, and a very impressive 2004. It should drink nicely for up to a decade.
