92 Medium-dark garnet-ruby, with aromas of fresh mushroom, blackberry and light earth. Full-bodied, with soft and silky tannins, fresh acidity and a long flavorful finish. All in balance. Holding on well.--1997 Italian blind retrospective. Drink now. 650 cases made.

92 With bold cherry, dusty earth and tobacco nearly blowing out of the glass, you get Brunello’s aromas at their finest. Across the palate flows plum and offsetting pepper, while on the finish the wine gets tight as a drum courtesy of those patented fierce Brunello tannins. Very fruity but tight; drink 2005 or later.

91 The dark ruby 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, with a ripe nose of raspberries, tar, and oak spices, is solid, deep, and long on the palate. Plush and with perceptible tar and mineral notes on the fresh finish, it will easily drink well for more than a dozen years.

90 ($128) Saturated ruby. Big, slightly porty aromas of redcurrant, chocolate, coffee, mocha and tar, along with an element of humus. Large-scaled, chocolatey and very ripe, with blackberry, spice and underbrush flavors verging on cooked. Plush, sweet and full. Finishes with broad, rich tannins and strong spice notes. Another outsized 1997, but lacks the typical elegance of this estate.
