August 201294 The 2010 Chablis Mont de Milieu has turned out beautifully. A gentle hint of spices from the oak frames layers of gorgeous, nuanced fruit. The 2010 shows the depth of the low yields with the minerality of a cool vintage and a finish is both huge and seemingly endless. It is a marvelous, complete wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared. This is a great showing from Samuel Billaud.
August 201293 Things take a more serious turn with the 2010 Chablis Mont de Milieu, which is a major step up from the preceding premier crus. Fruit, structure and acidity are all deftly balanced in this harmonious, impeccable wine. I especially like the level of nuance and pure delineation in the glass. A round, textured finish rounds things out in style. Here again, the seemingly opposite, contradictory qualities of the vintage are both on display. The Mont de Milieu is at once approachable yet taut. I find the combination utterly irresistible. Anticipated maturity: 2013+.
September 10, 201293 As it usually does, this possesses a slight exoticism that manifests itself in notes of dried orange peel, mango and tangerine along with sea breeze and oyster shell nuances. There is excellent richness to the full-bodied and powerful flavors that possess good mid-palate concentration and plenty of palate staining extract on the saline, superbly long, dry and quite serious finish. In brief, this is terrific.
