This wine is a marriage of a "big" vintage with Montelena's traditional style and displays an intense Cabernet aroma of berry and cassis along with a bouquet of cedary elegance brought about through 3 full years of cellaring. Youthful at this state, it possesses a depth of flavor that can only be derived from perfectly ripened Cabernet grapes. The flavors rise then fade to linger on like the history of a hundred years, to which we dedicate our first estate-bottled Cabernet Sauvignon.

94 A healthy ruby red in color, mature and complex, with wonderful depth, intensity and range of coffee and dried fruit flavors. About all you could ask for from a wine this age.--Chateau Montelena vertical. Drink now through 2010.

93 There is something reassuring about seeing a bottle of Chateau Montelena. This classic, old Napa Valley winery is best known for its Cabernet Sauvignon, but they can also fashion wonderful Chardonnay from the Alexander and Napa valleys. No further tasting note.
