93 Enticing aromatics lead to layers of ripe, rich, juicy fig, apricot, pear and melon. Toasty, smoky oak plays a prominent role, too, but it folds in nicely, adding complex flavor nuances. Drink now through 2006. 277 cases made.

92 The Quarry Vineyard is a parcel of Chardonnay also utilized by Peter Michael for its La Carriere and Belle Cote offerings. Very pure, Aubert’s 2001 Chardonnay Quarry Vineyard reveals a leesy, earthy, stone fruit-scented nose, a full-bodied, nicely textured mouthfeel, and rich, honeysuckle, grapefruit, and white peach flavors. It is an outstanding effort, but does not have quite the size of the Ritchie Vineyard cuvee. The wine reveals a slight greenish hue to its light yellow color, always a good sign in a top Chardonnay vintage.

92 (fruit from Peter Michael's La Carriere block, from all old Wente clones) Palish, slightly hazy yellow. Spicy, fruit-driven aromas of lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, peach and lime. Intensely flavored, precise and stony in the mouth, with superb energy and thrust. Finishes bright and long, with little sign of the 15% alcohol. The 65% new oak component is also very well integrated.
